Celebrate Dia de los Muertos

The Latino Staff Association (LaSA) invites all Oakland colleagues to join them in this year’s celebration of Dia de los Muertos AKA Day of the Dead.
Decorate sugar skulls on Wednesday
Join LaSA and the UCOP Crafts Group for sugar skull decorating, on Wednesday, Oct. 30, from 12 to 1:30 p.m. in Franklin room 5320. There is a $5 suggested donation to cover the cost of the supplies. Please RSVP here.
Honor lost loved ones at the UCOP ofrenda
One of the main traditions connected with Dia de los Muertos is building private altars called ofrendas. Ofrendas honor those who have died by displaying pictures or other mementos of lost loved ones and decorating the altar. LaSA will display a large Dia de los Muertos ofrenda in the Oakland Franklin building lobby, Oct. 28 through Nov. 1. Please consider bringing a picture or memento of a deceased friend, relative or pet to add to the altar. If you bring a photo, please include an explanatory note and write your name on the back so we know who the photo belongs to.
About Dia de los Muertos
Dia de los Muertos is one of Mexico’s most celebrated holidays. It is celebrated on November 1 (All Saints Day) and November 2 (All Souls Day) in Mexico and in some parts of Central and South America. This joyous celebration reminds us to enjoy life and to celebrate and honor the lives of loved ones who have died. Read more about Day of the Dead.
