Yvette Gullatt, Ph.D., kicks off Black History Month on Tuesday, Feb. 4
The Black Staff and Faculty Organization (BSFO) invites all staff to attend its first 2020 Black History Month event on Tuesday, Feb. 4. During this special celebration, Yvette Gullatt, Ph.D., vice provost and chief outreach officer/interim vice president of Student Affairs, will present a keynote address.
Jamal Collins, BSFO scholarship chair, will present three deserving UC-enrolled students each a $1,000 scholarship award.

Bayard Rustin, a master strategist and the organizer of the 1963 March on Washington, was instrumental in molding Martin Luther King Jr. into an international symbol of peace and nonviolence. But, he was also silenced and imprisoned due to being an openly gay man in a homophobic era. This documentary film has a run time of 90 minutes. Watch the trailer. BSFO members Dena Bullard and Annette Holmes will share their family stories. Holmes shares her family’s connection to “The Weeping Time” — the largest slave auction (436 women, men and children) held in 1859 at a racetrack in Savannah, Georgia. Bullard tells the story of her Japanese grandmother’s experience living in a US-sanctioned internment camp in Arkansas during WWII, as well as her family’s African-American and Japanese heritage.
