Introducing NAIPISA, UCOP’s newest staff affinity group
We are pleased to announce the launch of UCOP’s newest staff affinity group, the Native American Indigenous Pacific Islander Staff Association (NAIPISA). NAIPISA’s mission is to:
- Welcome, socially onboard, and provide community to new or returning UCOP staff who identify as Native American, Indigenous and Pacific Islander;
- Host events and public forums on issues, scholarship, policies and histories impacting Native American, Indigenous and Pacific Islanders at the UC and in its external partnerships and initiatives;
- Improve the representation and career pathways of Native American, Indigenous and Pacific Islander staff at UCOP.
The founding member of NAIPISA are Shanda Hunt, systemwide research compliance officer, Julienne Palbusa, institutional research analyst, and Tae-Sun Kim, systemwide strategic diversity initiatives manager. In forming NAIPISA, they sought to create a dedicated body within UCOP that would center the experiences, cultural knowledge and professional needs of Native American, Indigenous and Pacific Islander employees. They hope to increase the representation of Native Americans, Indigenous people and Pacific Islanders at all employee levels within UCOP, and help cultivate an organizational culture that will meaningfully engage and retain these populations.
Membership is open to all individuals who have a commitment to supporting the full participation and well-being of Native Americans, Indigenous people and Pacific Islanders at the University of California.
To officially register for NAIPISA, please contact Julienne Palbusa at jpalbusa@ucop.edu. And, save the date: Our first orientation meeting will take place on Friday, Dec. 4, at 12:00 p.m. (PT).
