In 2023, PACSW brought inspiration — and vegetables — to UCOP
Throughout 2023, the President’s Advisory Committee on the Status of Women (PACSW) harnessed the opportunity of hybrid work to organize resources for members and colleagues in person and remotely.
A highlight of the year was cultivating the 5th floor garden that connects the Oakland Franklin and Broadway buildings. It is now a place where all staff can pick freshly grown fruits and vegetables, and watch the hummingbirds and honeybees.
PACSW welcomed 24 new members who brought new energy and ideas to the committee. One new activity was organizing a UCOP team to participate in the annual Midway Shelter Run and Walk to benefit Building Futures’ Midway Shelter for families.
Members successfully advocated for the addition of the popular Making Power Moves course to UCOP’s permanent Learning and Development catalog. Taught by Amy Levine, Ed.D., this course is an exceptional career development opportunity for women and women-identifying individuals who manage people or projects. It is designed expressly for UCOP staff and sessions reflect the unique UCOP environment.
Throughout the year, PACSW members also continued to host the popular Women We Admire speaker series for the UCOP community. Dynamic and brilliant speakers included UCOP Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Katherine Newman and reproductive justice expert Michele Bratcher Goodwin.
