Cyber security is a shared responsibility at UC. You can do your part by never giving out your passwords.
Don’t Share Passwords
Never share your password with anyone! No one has a legitimate reason to ask you for the password.
Remember, passwords are the keys to the “doors” that allow access to information, and personal passwords allow access to information about you.
UCOP passwords also allow access to University data, which may include information about other people, and computing resources. At UC, passwords are treated as “restricted” information and require the highest level of security protection, whether in storage or transit.
Don’t Get Phished
Never respond to unsolicited e-mails requesting that you send your password to verify your account information or for some other purpose. Delete these e-mails promptly.
Phishing, which is typically carried out by e-mail or instant messaging, is the criminally fraudulent process of attempting to acquire sensitive information, such as usernames, passwords and credit card details, by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication. Communications purporting to be from popular social web sites, auction sites, online payment processors or IT administrators are commonly used to lure the unsuspecting public.
