Gwen Allamby to retire after more than 30 years of service
Please join Health Sciences in expressing congratulations and best wishes to Gwen M. Allamby, who will be retiring April 16, 2010 from the Division of Health Sciences and Services after a combined State and University of California service of more than 30 years.
Gwen began her UC career in 1979 in the University Benefits Program in the area of annuitants. She subsequently transferred to the University Relations Department. Gwen accepted a position in the Office of Health Affairs in 1983, under the leadership of former UC Vice President for Health Affairs, Cornelius Hopper, MD. She has been the historian for the Division and is the last member of the founding group of Health Affairs employees.
Gwen has extensive experience within and across the UC system and an extraordinary record of success in coordinating health sciences initiatives and activities. She has expertise with Regents’ policies and procedures, and has contributed to many reports and studies prepared by the Division of Health Sciences and Services (and previously Health Affairs). She was the staff person for the Health Sciences Institute Committee and prepared the initial report. For more than a decade, Gwen has maintained the system-wide database for educational Affiliation Agreements (more than 6,000) throughout the UC system. During this time, she has also capably managed the calendars and meeting arrangements for dozens of standing and ad hoc groups, including the University-wide Health Sciences Committee, the UC Graduate Medical Education Committee; the California Medical School Admissions Deans, and others.
Gwen is a native “Berkeleyan” and former City of Berkeley Commissioner. She has attended the University of California Berkeley, California State University San Francisco and California State University East Bay. She holds an Executive Human Resource Management Certificate and a Meeting Planners Certificate.
Please join Health Sciences in congratulating Gwen Allamby on her much deserved retirement.
