Older and Wiser: Basic Legal Knowledge for Living Well to the End

At noon on May 18 in Franklin Room 9204, estate planning attorney Sara Diamond will discuss what we need to know to protect ourselves legally as we age.  She will talk about the need for power of attorney and advance health care directive documents, and the basics of wills, trusts, trust administration and probate avoidance.  She will answer general questions about how to maintain as much control as possible over your own financial affairs and well-being.

Sara Diamond is a panel lawyer with ARAG, the legal insurance plan offered to UC employees. She enjoys working with ARAG and with ARAG clients.

Sara is an estate planning and probate attorney located in downtown Berkeley. She had a previous career as a sociologist, professor and political author before making a mid-life career change to law. She earned her Ph.D. in Sociology from UC Berkeley and her law degree from UC Hastings. Since becoming an attorney, she has taught Elder Law at the JFK University School of Law and at UC Berkeley’s School of Social Welfare. She is a member of the Alameda County Bar Association and the Berkeley Chamber of Commerce.  She speaks Spanish and is available to work with clients or their family members for whom English may be their second language.

    Hi,
I am interested in participating in this presentation. However, I work at UC Education Abroad Program located in Santa Barbara adjacent to the UCSB campus. Any suggestions or options for me? Thanks for your help.
