UCOP staff will return from the holiday break to find the reception desk repositioned to the other side of the lobby. This is being done for staff safety and an improved visitor service.

The new vantage point will provide security personnel a clear line of sight to both the turnstiles and elevators as they check in visitors. It also will open up space along the north wall to improve traffic flow.

In conjunction with this switch, the desk itself will be made more functional with long overdue upgrades to certain components related to security.

The enhancements were recommended two years ago by an outside consultant who conducted an audit of building access and egress, as well as functionality in emergency situations.

One thing that won’t change: The warm, welcoming attitude that is a staple of the front desk crew.
