Upcoming classes: performance, conflict & project management

Upcoming workshops this month through UCOP’s Learning & Development include classes in conflict management, project management and performance management, all taught at the Franklin building, as follows:

Conflict Management in the Workplace

  • Tuesday, Oct. 16, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • 12322 Franklin

Conflict is a natural occurrence in the workplace, ranging from differences of opinion to patterns of interaction between two people or heated disagreements. This new workshop provides useful tools for assessing conflict situations and your own style for handling conflict. When managed effectively, conflict can be used to spur innovation and productive change that supports rather than undermines the organization’s goals.

(Please note that all of UCOP’s Learning and Development communications and supervision workshops are conducted in an atmosphere of confidentiality. Attendees are asked to maintain confidentiality so that participants can feel open to discussing their issues and specific situations.)

Scheduling and Tracking a Project

  • Thursday, Oct. 18, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • 12322 Franklin

Part three of a three-part series, this class will help you master the skill of converting a project plan and estimates into a project schedule as well as tracking progress and communicating status.

Setting Performance Expectations

  • Wednesday, Oct. 24, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • 12322 Franklin

This class, designed for UCOP managers and supervisors, is the first in a series of four classes on performance management. In it, you will learn how to set performance expectations for your employees, an important component of the annual performance appraisal process that will give you specific criteria for evaluating performance at the end of the year.
