Eden coffee kiosk coming to Franklin lobby this week
Miss the Eden Plaza Café? The Franklin building’s popular breakfast and lunch spot was closed earlier this month after a fire and will stay shut through the winter holidays.
But Eden Plaza owner George Bazlamit is anxious to be back in business sooner than that, so he’s setting up a coffee and food kiosk in the Franklin lobby, just outside the entrance to the existing café.
Preparations are under way and the kiosk, dubbed Eden Express, is scheduled to open this Thursday or Friday, staffed by the usual Eden employees. Hours will be 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., and fare will include coffee, muffins and pastries as well as premade sandwiches.
Look for a refurbished café when Eden Plaza reopens its doors the first of the year, said Bazlamit, who has owned the café for five years.
“The place is going to be a whole new restaurant,” he said. “Due to smoke damage, we had to remove all the cabinetry, ceiling, equipment, even the sheetrock; so it’s going to be completely rebuilt.”
No one was injured in the small electrical fire, which took place on Oct. 16.
