UCOP Executive Vice President Nathan Brostrom issued the following notice to the UCOP community on Friday, Jan. 24, 2014:

Dear UCOP Colleagues:

I am writing to announce that President Napolitano has approved the appointment of Associate Vice President Michael Reese as Vice Chancellor of Business and Administrative Services at UC Merced, effective March 1.

Michael, who has served as my chief of staff with responsibility over Office of the President operations, including budget, will be leaving the Office of the President after nearly 14 years, working both in Business Operations and External Relations. He played a leadership role in the 2007–08 restructuring of the Office of the President and in developing the current OP budget process.

In his new role, Michael will oversee 250 employees and a $35 million budget. He will be responsible for the review and reorganization of a division that includes business and financial services, design and construction, facilities management, environmental health and safety, public safety and human resources. He will also be a pivotal player in UC Merced’s 2020 Project, an ambitious initiative to provide significant amounts of new teaching and research facilities, housing, athletics and support space for the campus to accommodate 10,000 students by 2020.

Expect Michael to continue to be a presence at OP as he engages with us in current and future systemwide initiatives, and in continuing to forge a strong relationship between OP and the system’s newest campus.

The search for a replacement as my chief of staff is under way.

Sincerely,

Nathan Brostrom
Executive Vice President, Business Operations
