Former long-time UCOP staffer Mike Bocchicchio “lived life to the fullest”

Michael Bocchicchio, who retired from UCOP in 2010 after 20 years as associate vice president for Capital Resources Management, university architect and chief building official, died on Sunday, April 27.

During his tenure at UC, he oversaw long-range development of facilities and provided policy direction, oversight and technical assistance for design, construction, real estate, facilities management, environmental protection and other aspects of physical planning.

“As was typical of his time at UC, up until the moment of his death, Mike was thoroughly engaged in a wide array of volunteer activities, professional pro bono work and artistic endeavors,” said Marsha Sato, deputy to the Vice President for Budget and Capital Resources and a longtime colleague. “He lived life to the fullest and pursued everything with zeal and a commitment to excellence.”

Twice appointed state architect of California by Gov. George Deukmejian, he also previously served as regional director of planning and facilities for the Southern California Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Brown Bocchicchio, and four sons. Anyone wishing to send condolences to the family may do so care of Janet Bocchicchio, 654 Morninghome Rd., Danville, CA  94526.

Services will be held on Saturday, May 24, 10 a.m., at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Danville, with a reception to follow at the Bankhead Theater in Livermore. UCOP colleagues are welcome to attend.

    Any one planning to attend the mass or reception please let me know, as I am trying to get a head count for the reception for the caterer. If you are planning on attending only the reception, it will start at 12 noon.

    An old friend from Notre Dame HS and St Cyril’s and his sisters, especially Bebe. Michael and I were in a band together and I taught him about his shotgun! I knew the whole family including Alfeo! I was in their house in Encino many times, but the years went by, as I plied my business. in the Biz. I was a Prop Master!
