Anne L. Shaw appointed secretary and chief of staff to the regents

The University of California Board of Regents has appointed Anne L. Shaw as secretary and chief of staff to the regents.

Shaw has served in the role on an interim basis since March 31, following the retirement of Marsha Kelman. Shaw was selected after a nationwide search, based on her extensive experience working with the Board of Regents.

“I am honored to continue to serve the University of California in this role,” Shaw said. “I am eager to provide support to the Board of Regents and President Napolitano as they work to move the university forward.”

Shaw joined the Office of the Secretary in 1983. She was promoted to associate secretary to the regents in 1996. She previously served as acting secretary of the regents from June 2006 to April 2007. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in political science from the University of Nevada and a master’s degree of library information science from UC Berkeley.

The secretary and chief of staff to the regents serves as the primary liaison between the regents and university administration, working directly with the chairman of the Board of Regents and the president of the university in the execution of board-related projects, initiatives and mandates. These responsibilities include coordinating board meetings, substantive research and analysis, and overseeing the planning, preparation, support and review for all projects.

Shaw will receive an annual base salary of $225,000.
