Meetings that Work: Join a new focus group convening Thursday, Sept. 25

Are you frustrated by spending too much time in meetings that take you away from your own work and don’t even seem to get that much accomplished?

You might want to join a group of staff interested in exploring how we can all make meetings at UCOP more productive. “Meetings that Work,” is another focus group that has emerged from Efficiency Review suggestions on ways to make working at UCOP more efficient and effective.

The first of two meetings will be held Thursday, Sept. 25. If you’d like to participate, register through the UC Learning Center:

  • Log in using your UCOP login and password.
  • Using the Search box on the left, search for Meetings that Work.
  • Click on the session, then click on the Register box and Submit.

Some of the suggestions from the Efficiency Review include shortening meetings to 45 minutes to allow travel between meetings; instituting meeting tools like agendas, minutes and objectives to provide better focus; and OP-wide use of Outlook rather than multiple emails to set up meetings.

Focus group organizers hope to explore these and other best practices for making in-person meetings and conference calls more productive. The September meeting will focus on brainstorming ideas, and a second meeting of the same group will be scheduled in mid-October to establish priorities for further exploration.
