New training courses available for managers and supervisors

UC has just released several new courses that you can take anytime and anywhere online, designed for those who manage people.

The courses include UC Performance Management, a series of eight learning modules, and Hiring for Success, a 30-minute course that guides you through the hiring and recruiting process. Both can be accessed through the UC Learning Center.

Developed in part in response to the 2012 UC Staff Engagement Survey, the courses represent an expansion and enrichment of training for those who are new to managing people, want a refresher, want to develop their managerial skills or aspire to a managerial role.

The online format makes the courses easy to take at any time. They are designed to explain systemwide practices, help managers better understand their role and retain motivated, engaged employees.

  • UC Performance Management includes eight modules, each 30 to 60 minutes in length, covering topics such as setting performance goals, giving and receiving feedback, engaging and motivating employees, conducting performance appraisals, managing corrective action and more. They include best practices, tools, assessments and interactive scenarios.
  • Hiring for Success is presented in five modules, approximately 30 minutes in total, and covers talent acquisition, interviewing and the importance of diversity, among other topics. Knowledge checks are included throughout each course.

UCOP HR is developing a plan to hold facilitated discussion groups among course participants to work with their peers in further exploring the course content and discussing real-world applications. Also under way is a certification process for those who complete the courses and discussion groups.

Find both courses on the UC Learning Center at any time that’s convenient for you; simply log in with your credentials and search for the course you want by name.
