10-second bio: Meet Charles Melton: From UC Davis to UCDC
Name: Charles Melton
Title: Legislative and Communications Coordinator
Department/Unit: External Relations/Federal Governmental Relations
Location: UC Washington Center (UCDC), Washington, D.C.
When I started working at UCOP: August 2011
What I do for UCOP in five words or less: Communications, advocacy events, publications, reports
Best part about working at UCOP: The ability to educate individuals about the impact of UC across the United States and work every day with a diverse group of talented individuals.
Something you don’t know about me: During my senior year at UC Davis, I was the campus mascot, Gunrock, a blue bipedal horse. And, despite being deathly afraid of sharks, I’m an avid scuba diver.
One weird fact about the place where I grew up: Just outside Fresno, on Highway 99, a palm tree and a deodar cedar are planted next to each other in the center divider. They are said to represent the “middle” of California, with the cedar representing Northern and the palm representing Southern California.
If I could have any job in the world (besides the one I have now), I would be: a craft beer brewer.
