Katherine Edwards to lead UCOP Marketing Communications
Katherine Edwards has been appointed executive director of UCOP Marketing Communications. She has held the role in an interim capacity since February 2014, following the departure of Jason Simon, who had held the position for five years.
In the executive director role, Edwards will continue to lead a 29-person team in conceptualizing and directing systemwide marketing communications strategies — like the recent Power of Public campaign — to advance public understanding of UC’s importance to the state of California and its people.
Previously, Edwards served for six years as director of Integrated Communications, implementing programs in various media to promote UC systemwide to both internal and external audiences.
Edwards started her UCOP career in 2002 as director of New Student Communications and, later, as director of Strategic Communications in Academic Affairs. In 2007–08, she played a central role in planning the organization of UCOP’s consolidated communications functions.
Before joining UCOP, she worked for 13 years in newspapers across California, as a higher education reporter and editor. She was also program coordinator for the University of Southern California (USC) School of Journalism in London, England. She holds a B.A. in journalism from USC.
Congratulations to Katherine!
