COO/CFO update: UCOP Administrative Services director position posted

Recruitment for the new UC Systemwide chief operating officer is nearly complete, with the goal of presenting the final candidate for approval at the January UC Board of Regents meeting.

As part of the COO/CFO alignment, the chief operating officer will oversee the creation of the UCOP Administrative Services department. This department will combine units whose primary role is to serve internal staff within the Office of the President, including the Business Resource Center (BRC), the OP Budget Office, Building and Administrative Services (BASC), and the local Human Resources, Information Technology and Procurement Services units.

The executive director position is scheduled to be posted today and will remain open until filled. The first review of applications will begin late January. President Napolitano has directed that internal UC candidates be given priority consideration for any new positions, and all qualified employees are strongly encouraged to apply.

A number of COO/CFO transition activities have already taken place, including:

Division of the Chief Operating Officer (COO)

  • A new Energy and Sustainability Department has been formed under the interim leadership of AVP Debora Obley. The recruiting process for the permanent AVP is scheduled to begin in early 2015.

Division of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

  • Capital Resources Management has moved to the CFO division, merging with Capital Markets Finance and the Office of Loan Programs, under the leadership of AVP Sandra Kim.
  • Budget Operations, also under the leadership of Debora Obley, has moved to the CFO division and been renamed Budget Analysis and Planning.

We will continue to keep the UCOP community informed of these organizational changes. If you have questions, please feel free to contact Kathy Eftekhari at Kathy.Eftekhari@ucop.edu or Deanna Geddie at Deanna.Geddie@ucop.edu.
