TAMP: UCOP’s computer purchasing program
UCOP instituted the Technology Asset Management Program (TAMP) in 2011, centralizing desktop and laptop equipment purchase and management.
Information Technology Services (ITS) implements the program, which enables UCOP to track inventory, lower computer purchase costs, streamline deployment and ensure software license compliance. Under the program, departments request hardware and software bundles upon hiring a new employee or when equipment has reached the end of its life. The cost for one standard computing bundle per employee is covered in the departmental recurring IT utilities fee. ITS continually monitors devices, and if there are any issues, they automatically refresh the computer.
Now that most equipment at UCOP has been provided under TAMP, ITS wants to remind departments of some important procedures:
- When a staff member leaves UCOP, ITS will collect the employee’s desktop and/or laptop computer immediately. The department does not keep the computer.
- If the department needs data that is on the computer, ITS will assist with moving it to an appropriate location.
- If a staff member transfers to another department within OP, the employee takes their standard desktop and/or laptop to the new department. ITS can reconfigure it as necessary.
