Departing staff advisor reflects on two years of “planting seeds,” championing staff issues

With a longstanding interest in diversity and employee satisfaction, UC Merced’s Director of Campus Climate Deidre “De” Acker looked forward to the opportunity to improve the climate for staff systemwide when she became staff advisor to the UC Board of Regents in 2014. The experience left a lasting impact on her — and her family — that she didn’t expect.
As the UC Santa Barbara alum and 27-year UC veteran prepares to complete her term in June 2016, she reflects on her experience and offers advice to those interested in applying for the seat by the March 4 deadline.
