UC enrolls most diverse class ever
This fall, 38 percent of the California freshman and transfer students beginning studies at a UC campus were underrepresented minorities — Latinos, African Americans, Pacific Islanders and American Indians.
Comparing this year’s incoming freshmen and transfer students with last year’s, UC Riverside nearly doubled the number of Latino students, while UCLA had the highest percentage of incoming African American students of all UC campuses.
These trends were discussed at the most recent UC Board of Regents meeting, with President Napolitano observing that “the changing demographics of the state of California…will significantly impact the future enrollment growth and diversity at UC.”
