UCOP celebrates Pride Month with 7th annual Ice Cream Social
“I’m determined that we will keep moving forward, not back.”
With those words, President Napolitano added sprinkles of optimism to the 7th annual UCOP Pride Ice Cream Social, which she celebrated with a large crowd of OP colleagues on June 2. While acknowledging that “the political winds have shifted” since last year’s social, she affirmed that at both OP and UC, “our commitment to a diverse and inclusive community has not wavered.”
UCOP Pride Co-Chair Yvonne Li added to the good cheer by enumerating what the affinity group has accomplished in the past year, including netting over $600 in its Valentine’s Day fundraiser for donation to the National Center for Lesbian Rights, which fights for the civil and human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. Along with the President’s Advisory Committee on the Status of Women (PACSW), the group also co-sponsored a workshop at OP on gender inclusivity.
“Let’s keep fighting the good fight,” Napolitano said, before adding, “And enjoy your ice cream!” Check out the slideshow to see how OP staff took that encouragement to heart, as they savored the cool treats provided by their colleagues in the Pride affinity group.
