Make a difference in a colleague’s life: Become a UCOP mentor
Was there someone influential who helped you earlier in your working life — or did you always wish there was? Would you like to help a colleague grow and develop in their career? If so, have you ever considered becoming a mentor?
The Fall 2017 UCOP Mentorship program is looking for people like you! We hope to recruit 40-50 potential mentors in order to establish 25-30 solid mentor-mentee matches.
Mentoring works because we do most of our learning by observing successful models; you can be that successful model for a UCOP mentee. Not only will you be assisting a mentee to expand their professional knowledge and skills through coaching and guidance, you will also be sharing your talents, skills and experience.
Mentors commit to meeting one-on-one and/or via teleconference or video conference with their mentee over a nine-month period. No prior experience is necessary, but you should:
- be in a job classification of Managers and Senior Professionals (MSP) Grades 23 and above, or Senior Management Group
- have held a leadership role for at least two years
- have at least one to two hours per month to commit to a mentee
