Photo slideshow: Smiles for miles at UC Walks

Hundreds of UCOP staff members in Oakland and Riverside celebrated the return of UC Walks on May 16 by donning their walking shoes for an energetic group walk.

In Oakland, 478 staff turned out for the event — nearly double the number of attendees from last year! Staff members received free UC Walks T-shirts and visited UC medical plan vendor booths where they picked up health tips and wellness goodies from fruit and snacks to stress balls and pocket-size first-aid kits. They were all smiles in the photo booth, and took turns trying their hand at cornhole, basketball, tricycle racing (it’s a lot harder than it looks) and other games.

After Vice President of Systemwide Human Resources Dwaine B. Duckett welcomed staff to the 9th annual event, participants warmed up with a group stretch and then embarked on a walk around part of Lake Merritt.

In Riverside, 275 employees from the UCPath Center and adjoining UCR Intellicenter participated in a 30-minute group walk along a tree-lined street in front of the UCPath Center’s office. A wellness fair offered hula-hooping, golf putting, a prop-filled selfie station and a board games table as well as information and giveaways at booths hosted by UC medical plan vendors, UC Riverside Health, UCR Transportation, a local yoga company and local farmers.

Flip through the photo slideshow above for a recap of the day.

UC Walks is a Systemwide WellBeing Initiative program that promotes wellness and an active lifestyle, and is coordinated by the wellness programs at the campuses and health systems.
