President Napolitano addresses standing-room-only Town Hall

On Tuesday, October 1, President Napolitano addressed UCOP staff for the first time since announcing her decision to step down as president. The standing-room-only event touched upon many issues of importance to UCOP and the greater UC community.

The president began by overviewing many of the initiatives UC has achieved during her tenure, including the Achieve UC outreach program, first-gen initiative and Free Speech Center at UCDC. She touched upon many current hot topics, including UC’s fight to protect DACA — which will culminate in a U.S. Supreme Court hearing this November, the multiyear framework, campus modernization efforts and the expansion of the UCPath system.

Locally, she encouraged staff to take advantage of UCOP professional and career-development opportunities, including the Alumni Career Network, Chancellor Chat series and introduction of LinkedIn Learning.

During a lively Q&A session, she covered UCOP’s employee engagement survey, the role of foreign influence in UC research, her advice for UC’s next president and more.
