Invite a UCOP student intern to join your team

This Wednesday, Jan. 22, managers are invited to attend an informational meeting about the UCOP Student Internship Program. Now in its fifth year, this program provides college students with an opportunity to experience real-life work experience and career-related training in a dynamic and professional work setting.

Cameron Pon, who is now a desk side support technician in UCOP’s ITS department, is a graduate of the program. He interned at 20th Street in Oakland while completing his computer science degree at UC Santa Cruz. The internship provided Cameron with a varied perspective of technology-related careers and teams, including change management and enterprise operations.

Through the internship program’s learning-focused agenda, students participate in workshops to boost their skills, such as technical writing and public speaking. They also complete a final project; in Cameron’s case a data analysis that revealed seven meaningful metrics about UCOP ITS compliance with security policies.

“This internship is a great opportunity for college students,” Cameron says. “In addition to work experience, students get to add many different projects to their resumes, and depending on which team they are part of, they can get a good sense of what they might want to do with their careers. The internship also helps build interviewing skills.”

If your department intends to host an intern or even has a strong interest, please attend the information session or contact Connie Tremblay and Jeff Korec.
