President Drake approves extended time to use vacation leave
The following message was sent by Executive Director of UCOP Human Resources Nancy Pluzdrak on Oct. 27, 2020.
Dear colleagues,
As restrictions on travel and increased workloads due to COVID-19 continue, President Drake has approved another extension to the time allowed for employees to use accrued vacation leave. Effective retroactively from June 1, 2020, through June 30, 2021, policy-covered staff employees may receive up to an additional 12 months (instead of up to an additional four months) within which to take vacation leave in order to bring their vacation accrual below the maximum.
Under the Absence from Work Policy (PPSM-2.210), policy-covered staff who reach the maximum accrual stop earning more vacation leave until their balance falls below the maximum – with a four-month extension allowed under certain circumstances. In June, President Napolitano approved a temporary increase to that four-month extension for eligible staff.
Who is eligible
This policy change applies to policy-covered staff at locations other than Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Policy-covered staff who earn PTO should refer to their location’s PTO program for eligibility information. This does not apply to represented employees.
How it works
The extension will be applied automatically through UCPath. If you are eligible, you will continue accruing vacation leave through June 30, 2021, even if you are over your usual maximum accrual. On July 1, 2021, policy-covered staff who are over their maximum accrued vacation leave will no longer accrue additional leave until they bring their vacation balance below the maximum.
Please note: To find your maximum accrual, log into your UCPath Online account at ucpath.universityofcalifornia.edu, then select Employee Actions > Leave Balances. Your maximum vacation accrual is displayed at the bottom of the chart.
