John A. Pérez, California Assembly Speaker Emeritus and Chair of the UC Board of Regents

On Dec. 2, from 12-1 p.m., the UC Center Sacramento will present: An Afternoon with Assembly Speaker Emeritus and Chair of the UC Board of Regents, John A. Pérez.

Speaker Emeritus and UC Regent Chair Pérez was first elected to the California Assembly in November 2008, representing the communities of Downtown Los Angeles and East Los Angeles. In January 2010, his colleagues elected him California’s 68^th Assembly Speaker. Chair Pérez was subsequently re-elected in 2010 and 2012, making him one of the longest-serving speakers in the era of term limits. Chair Pérez has helped make the affordability and accessibility of higher education one of the most important statewide priorities through passage of the Middle-Class Scholarship Act — landmark legislation that has provided tuition relief of up to 40% for nearly 100,000 California State University and University of California students.
