UC celebrates the court order that restores DACA
On Dec. 4, 2020, a federal judge decisively ordered the government to fully restore the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Due to the efforts of UC and many others, the Supreme Court in June held that the administration’s attempt to rescind DACA was arbitrary and capricious. Rather than reinstate DACA in full, however, the administration sought to cut back on DACA and its benefits.
UC President Michael V. Drake, M.D., and Board of Regents Chair John A. Pérez issued a statement following Judge Nicholas G. Garaufis’s decision:

In solidarity with our students and the entire UC community, we are pleased that a federal judge today decisively ordered the federal government to fully restore the DACA program. This is a win for DACA recipients, their families, and for this country that has been so enriched by immigrants.
Meanwhile, Congress must act on comprehensive reform that addresses our country’s broken system and recognizes the full contributions of immigrant communities in America.”
