On Tuesday, Sept. 14, from 1-2 p.m., the OP Staff Assembly and UCOP Learning and Development welcome all staff to attend a forum to engage with senior leaders, learn about their leadership journeys and gain valuable insights into how they have developed their careers.

Yvette Gullatt, Vice President for Graduate and Undergraduate Affairs and Vice Provost for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
Yvette has more than 20 years’ experience in student affairs, diversity and institutional equity leadership. Prior to her current role, she served as vice provost for diversity and engagement and interim vice president for Student Affairs. Yvette joined UCOP in 1999 as the systemwide director for early and immediate outreach. Since then, she has held a variety of systemwide leadership positions and has launched several key initiatives to expand UC’s role in public education. Prior to UCOP, Yvette served eight years in a variety of administrative and leadership roles at UC Berkeley. Yvette received her bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees from UC Berkeley, where her research included early African-American life writing and Afro-Christian discourses of community development and nationalism. She is a graduate of the Management Development Program at the Harvard Institutes for Higher Education in the Harvard Graduate School of Education and the UC-CORO Systemwide Leadership Collaborative.

Chris Harrington, Associate Vice President, UCDC
Chris has more than two decades of federal governmental relations, advocacy and communications experience in our nation’s capital. As associate vice president, he is responsible for developing, coordinating and implementing UC’s federal relations activities and serving as an advocate for the university on federal matters, including education, health care and research. Prior to joining the UC in 2001, Chris worked for the National Education Goals Panel (NEGP), a bipartisan intergovernmental body of federal and state policymakers created to assess and report state and national progress toward achieving the National Education Goals. Before joining NEGP, Chris was a legislative staff member for United States Sen. Jeff Bingaman of New Mexico. Chris earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from Loyola University.

Jenny Kao, Chief of Staff to President Drake
Jenny is President Drake’s top executive advisor and confidant on a wide range of issues related to all aspects of university management. She helps develop and execute UC’s policy and strategy agenda, manages crises and issues, mediates disputes, resolves problems and advances President Drake’s vision for UC. Prior to this role, she was Chief of Staff for President Napolitano. Jenny has worked in the public sector and in public higher education for more than two decades. At UCOP, she previously served as chief policy advisor, chief of staff for Public Affairs and founding executive director for issues management, policy analysis and coordination — a role in which she co-led UC’s State Governmental Relations office in Sacramento. Jenny has also served as deputy to the executive vice president for External Relations and as special assistant to two prior UC presidents. Jenny earned a bachelor’s degree in history from UC Berkeley and a master’s degree in public affairs from Princeton University.

Cheryl Lloyd, Vice President, Systemwide Human Resources
Cheryl has worked at UCOP since 1998. She has held a variety of leadership roles in the office of the chief risk officer; for the past two years, she has served as interim vice president for Systemwide Human Resources, as well as chief risk officer. During this time, she has addressed a high volume of critical operational and policy issues, including those amplified by the coronavirus pandemic. As vice president of Systemwide Human Resources, Cheryl oversees employee and labor relations, talent management, benefits programs, HR policy and compensation programs, as well as UC pension plans and retirement administration center. Cheryl began her career in the insurance and risk industry with Chubb Insurance. Prior to UC, she was the corporate risk manager for Core-Mark International. Cheryl has a dual degree in mass communications and sociology from UC Berkeley.

Charles F. Robinson, General Counsel and Vice President, Legal Affairs
Charles began his current role in 2007. He is the chief legal officer of the UC system, providing advice and counsel to the Board of Regents, President Drake, chancellors and other senior university officials.  He oversees more than 125 attorneys throughout the UC system, represents UC in all legal and regulatory proceedings and retains and manages outside counsel. Prior to UC, Charles was vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary for the California Independent System Operator Corporation. Before that, he was assistant general counsel for litigation at Packard Bell NEC, division counsel for the Raychem Corporation and a litigation partner at Heller Ehrman White and McAuliffe. Charles has a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and juris doctorate degree from Yale University.
