Academic Senate leadership announcements
The Academic Senate is pleased to share a couple of important announcements with the UCOP community.
First, after nearly 10 years with the Academic Senate, and 30 years with UC, Hilary Baxter is retiring as executive director, effective June 30.
Prior to working with the Senate, Hilary was assistant director of Academic Planning in Institutional Research and Academic Planning (IRAP). She also served at UCOP for more than 20 years in areas including academic program review, accreditation, undergraduate education and self-supporting programs. She worked on Master Plan issues and legislative analysis, as well as relations with California State University, the California Community Colleges and the former California Postsecondary Education Commission. Before coming to UC, Hilary earned her master’s degree in education policy at Stanford, and worked in Washington, D.C., to learn about higher education policy at the national level. She has two grown children, of whom she is extremely proud.
Secondly, the Senate would like to welcome Monica Lin as its new executive director. Monica comes from Graduate, Undergraduate and Equity Affairs (GUEA), where she was director for A-G and Transfer Policy and Analysis.
During her 11 years in Student Affairs and GUEA, Monica has led intersegmental efforts resulting in a number of accomplishments for academic preparation and articulation programs and services. She has spearheaded numerous reviews in collaboration with UC faculty to revise A-G and UC-transferable course criteria and guidelines and to expand course articulations for student access and equity. She has also played a key part in developing new policies and reshaping existing ones. Most recently, Monica has focused on advancing the policy movement behind broadening college-prep course offerings and access in science and mathematics.
Please join the Senate staff in welcoming Monica to her new role and in thanking Hilary for her service — and wishing her a fun and relaxing retirement!
