Cheryl Grills, Ph.D., Kamilah Moore, J.D., and Donald Tamaki, J.D., of the California Reparations Task Force will speak about their work this Thursday.

Juneteenth — a federal holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans — takes place on June 19 annually. Since it falls on a Sunday in 2022, the federal (and UC) holiday will be observed on Monday, June 20. The Black Staff and Faculty Organization (BSFO) has planned several events for UCOP colleagues throughout the week of June 13 to inform, educate and entertain colleagues. Three experts who serve on the California Reparations Task Force — Cheryl Grills, Ph.D., Kamilah Moore, J.D., and Donald Tamaki, J.D. — will speak about the meaning and importance of reparations, including the history of reparations in America. They will also provide information on how to support tangible reparations for American Descendants of Slavery.

Voting Rights Presentation

Distinguished guests John Brown Childs, Ph.D., and Jonathan Mehta Stein, J.D., will speak about the importance of voting and voting rights. This event will open with a special presentation from President Drake.
