UCOP Sustainability Employee Resource Group announces new co-chairs and Friday meeting

Erin Warnock-Smith and Hilary Steinman

Erin Warnock-Smith and Hilary Steinman are the new SERG co-chairs

The UCOP Sustainability Employee Resource Group (SERG) is excited to announce that it has selected two new co-chairs for FY2022-2023 — Erin Warnock-Smith, human resources business partner at the UCPath Center in Riverside, and Hilary Steinman, commodity manager for professional services in Strategic Sourcing in Oakland.

As co-chairs, Erin and Hilary will:

  • Lead SERG as it continues to create and promote a culture of sustainability at UCOP locations and focus on UC Sustainable Practices Policy issue areas
  • Support SERG’s goals to identify and initiate projects and programs that engage and educate UCOP staff on sustainability best practices and systemwide policy goals in recycling, transportation, energy use, waste reduction and climate protection
  • Facilitate monthly general meetings where SERG discusses sustainability topics relevant to UCOP through the lens of diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Support cross-departmental collaborations with the UCOP Energy and Sustainability Unit and the OP Staff Assembly, along with SERG members

SERG would like to acknowledge Donna Seaward and Michael Aires, who have served as co-chairs since the group was founded in 2020. Donna retired on June 30, after a 17-year career with UC. Mike, a web editor in Internal Communications, will continue to support the 5th-floor patio garden at the Franklin/Broadway campus in Oakland with his Master Gardener expertise.

All UCOP staff are invited to join the virtual SERG general meeting this Friday, July 29, from 9 – 10 a.m. (PT). Members will host a meet & greet with Erin and Hilary, then brainstorm events and activities for 2022-2023. Join via Zoom here.
