Karen Miga, assistant professor of biomolecular engineering at UC Santa Cruz and one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People of 2022, co-led the Telomere-to-Telomere (T2T) Consortium that released the first complete, gapless assembly of a human genome sequence on March 31, 2022.

Another year is very nearly in the books — and when it comes to UC research, that book is quite the page-turner! Amazing research has emerged from every corner of every campus, lab, medical center and division of the University of California this year that will benefit our state, country and the world for years to come.
