New Employee Orientation
Jan. 10, 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Starting a new job or at new UC location can be daunting. This orientation session is designed to facilitate your smooth transition to UCOP. Topics include UC and its history, UCOP overview, employee tools and resources, safety and compliance.

New Hire IT Orientation
Jan. 13, 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 am
Designed for new UCOP employees, this IT orientation will help you get started with your UCOP work station. Topics covered include using Outlook email and Outlook calendar, Zoom, Box, Jabber phone, document storage, wireless networks, printing, and how to get help from the Service Desk.

UCOP Creating Accessible PDFs
Jan. 11, 2 – 3 p.m. 
Digital accessibility is about ensuring users with disabilities can easily access and engage with any digital content UCOP creates. Many of these resources, such as annual reports, policy documents, or presentations are PDFs. This course will focus on creating accessible Word documents, converting Word to PDF, and identifying basic accessibility issues using Adobe’s accessibility checker. We will also address converting Excel, PowerPoint, and other formats into accessible PDFs.

3Practice Circles

UCOP Human Resources and the Ombuds Office are holding 3Practice Circle sessions to facilitate dialogue between colleagues and help us connect as a community. A 3Practice Circle isn’t a debate, discussion or therapy group; it’s a safe space for clarity and understanding — with no obligation to agree — and an opportunity to exercise your listening and communication skills. Each session focuses on one framing question, as noted below.
— Zoom: “This is what would change at UCOP/UCPath if my voice were heard” | Jan. 24, 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
— Oakland, on-site: “This is what I lost and discovered during COVID” | Jan. 12, 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.;  Jan. 26, 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.;  Feb. 21, 2:30 – 4 p.m.

People Leaders Forum: Internal Promotion Process
Jan. 13, 1:00 – 2 p.m.
The People Leaders Forum is a monthly opportunity for people managers to connect with one another to develop leadership skills, build community, share best practices, swap strategies for navigating current challenges and learn to better support themselves and their teams. In our January session, we’ll help you gain a better understanding of how to conduct promotions within your team.

Mindfulness at UCOP
Jan. 20, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Less stress. Enhanced awareness and focus. Improved health. These are some of the benefits shown in research studies on mindfulness. In this one-hour workshop, you will learn how to reduce your stress and increase your effectiveness at work through simple mindfulness techniques.

Project Management for Non-Project Managers
Jan. 24, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
This workshop is designed for professionals who want to enhance their project management skills and better manage projects of all kinds. While traditional project management concepts are covered, this session is focused on bringing innovative insights and practical techniques to improve your managing of projects of all sizes.

Zoom Advanced
Jan. 25, 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. 
Learn the various features Zoom offers to improve your virtual experience! Topics include personal meeting ID; advanced web portal settings; advanced scheduling options; advanced sharing options and annotation; polling; breakout rooms; reporting and cloud recording; and Q&A.

Managing and Organizing Your Email
Jan. 25, 10 – 11:30 a.m.
Are you trying to get more organized in the new year? Learn skills for email management strategies to transform email into a productivity tool that can help you succeed.

Navigating Change and Transitions
Jan. 26, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
“The only thing that is constant is change” — Heraclitus, who lived 100 years before Plato, knew this, and it is still true in today’s world. This workshop will explore the human response to change and stages within the transition process. Participants will expand their capability to successfully navigate through personal and professional changes while utilizing the William Bridges’ transition model and psychological flexibility framework.

21 Practices for Happiness at Work
Jan. 31, 1 – 3 p.m.
In this hands-on workshop presented by popular vendor People-OnTheGo, participants will learn to develop and practice the mindfulness, emotional intelligence, growth mindset and productivity skills that are crucial in today’s workplace. We’ll focus on behavioral changes and initiative-taking, while at the same time paying attention to self-care, stress reduction, fostering enjoyment and self-fulfillment.
