New Employee Orientation
July 11, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. (Oakland)
July 11, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. (Virtual)
Starting a new job or transitioning to a new location can be daunting. The UCOP New Employee Orientation is designed to facilitate your smooth transition to the organization. Topics will include UC and our history, UCOP overview, tools and resources, safety and compliance.

Basic Safety Awareness
July 12, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Melissa Collins, program manager for security, risk and resilience, will facilitate this 30-minute live virtual class that will provide basic safety tips to help employees feel informed, alert and safe as they travel to and from the workplace. Extra time will be allotted for questions and feedback. Melissa joined UCOP after serving 20 years with the UC San Diego Police Department, retiring as a lieutenant, and is a safety expert.

People Leader Forum
July 14, 1 – 2 p.m.
People Leaders Forums are a monthly opportunity for people managers to connect with one another to develop leadership skills, build community, share best practices, swap strategies for navigating current challenges and learn to better support themselves and their teams. This month’s session will focus on UC Experience Conversations, opportunities for employees to explore what is important to them, considering their satisfaction, engagement and motivation at work. Leaders will learn how to use UC Experience Conversations to support employee career development and increase retention by giving employees an opportunity to share their aspirations and support their career goals.

Developing a Career Plan
July 18, 1 – 2 p.m.
UCOP offers free career development tools at your fingertips. Come learn how to use My UC Career and LinkedIn to develop your professional brand, share and document your accomplishments and network with colleagues throughout UC.

Smartsheet Tips for Project Management
July 19, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Geared toward new and current project managers, this workshop will teach you tips for saving time, increasing collaboration and better managing projects. Discover tricks and shortcuts for streamlining projects and managing them effectively and efficiently. 

Microsoft Project Fundamentals
July 20 & July 27, 1 – 4 p.m. (two sessions)
Microsoft Project is today’s industry-standard tool for organizing and tracking projects of all sizes. This course teaches its basic commands and features. Learn how to create and modify task lists, establish a project schedule, create calendars, assign resources to tasks, track costs and work with views and tables. You will also learn how to apply filters and groups, sort task and resource data, and resolve resource conflicts.

Project Management for Non-Project Managers
July 25, 1 – 4 p.m.
Enhance your project management skills and better manage projects of all kinds! While we’ll cover traditional project management concepts, this session is focused on innovative insights and practical techniques.

Excel Macros and Visual Basic for Applications (VBA)
July 26 & Aug. 2, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. (two sessions)
Learn how macros and Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) can help you customize and automate repetitive tasks in Excel. Key concepts include recording, editing and adding VBA to macros; creating interactive VBA procedures; designing decision-making VBA; looping VBA procedures; and debugging VBA techniques. Successful completion of MS Excel Intermediate (or an understanding of the requisite skills taught in that class) is a prerequisite.

Navigating Change and Transition
July 27, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
The only constant thing is change: Heraclitus, who lived 100 years before Plato, knew this, and it’s still true in today’s world. This workshop will explore the human response to change and stages within the transition process. Participants will expand their capability to successfully navigate personal and professional changes while utilizing the William Bridges’ Transition Model and Psychological Flexibility framework.
