Subtle Acts of Exclusion
Jan. 17, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
The term “microaggression” has become widely used, yet it is just as widely misunderstood. Join us as we reframe microaggressions as subtle acts of exclusion (SAE). During this workshop, we will reflect on socialization and its impact on our outlook, attitudes, and behaviors; explore the SAE framework; and participate in group discussions on normalizing interrupting SAEs and engaging colleagues in discussion.

Gartner Introduction
Jan. 24, 11:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
If you’ve activated your Gartner membership through UCOP and could use some guidance getting started, join us for a helpful virtual workshop. We’ll help you tailor your Gartner experience to leverage the latest research on generative AI, manager effectiveness, DEI and more through membership views, research resource centers, tools, benchmarks, upcoming webinars and advanced search.

Collaborating Productively in Hybrid Meetings
RESCHEDULED to March 20, 1–3 p.m. — Hybrid workshop (Oakland + Zoom)
In this new workshop, we’ll address the biggest challenges meeting facilitators and participants face in a hybrid format and teach you how to overcome them to lead meetings smoothly. We’ll cover preparation and processes that will increase participation and engagement, and include all voices — whether guests are participating in person or virtually.

Managing and Organizing your Email Inbox – Microsoft Outlook
Jan. 11, 10 – 11:30 a.m.
Learn new and innovative techniques for better managing and organizing your Microsoft Outlook inbox and overcoming email overload. Discover powerful tips and techniques that can save you hours and help you get the results you desire. This workshop will cover practical features like customizing and setting flags, categories, calendars and tasks to track action emails; using advanced search to find relevant information easily; and organizing and archiving messages for future reference. You’ll also get advice for transforming email into a productivity tool that will help you, your team and UCOP succeed.

UCOP Creating Accessible Documents
Jan. 23, 10 – 11:30 a.m.
In this two-part training, you’ll learn everything you need to know to create accessible Word, PowerPoint, Excel and PDF documents. The first session will focus on accessibility principles, how to generate accessible Microsoft Office documents and how to export these documents to PDFs. The second session will focus on Adobe Acrobat and how to edit or enhance accessibility within PDF files. We will be remediating a Word document during session one and a PDF during session two. While sample documents will be provided, feel free to bring your own documents to practice on. Participants must attend both sessions.

21 Practices for Happiness and Accomplishment at Work
Jan. 12, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Presented by People-OnTheGo, this workshop will help you develop the necessary skills to practice mindfulness and emotional intelligence, adopt a growth mindset and increase your productivity at work. We’ll focus on making behavioral changes and taking initiative, while at the same time paying attention to self-care and stress reduction, increasing enjoyment of life and finding self-fulfillment.

Navigating Change and Transition
Jan. 26, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
The only constant thing is change: Heraclitus, who lived 100 years before Plato, knew this, and it’s still true in today’s world. This workshop will explore the human response to change and the stages within the transition process. Participants will expand their capability to successfully navigate personal and professional changes while utilizing William Bridges’ Transition Model and Psychological Flexibility framework.

Difficult Conversations
Jan. 31, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
In this highly interactive course, you’ll learn core principles to successfully navigate disagreements and apply them through practice role-playing. By the end of the workshop, you’ll feel more confident in approaching difficult conversations with anyone in your life. This course is taught by highly-rated instructor Leal Nelson, president and founder of Nelson Leadership Inc.

If you manage people, join our People Leader Forum — a monthly opportunity for supervisors to connect. The January session will introduce Gartner, the world’s leading member-based advisory service, providing research, tools, resources and best practice guidance in several disciplines and industries.

New Employee Orientation
Jan. 25, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Starting a new job or transitioning to a new location can be daunting. The UCOP New Employee Orientation is designed to facilitate your smooth transition to the organization. Topics will include UC and our history, UCOP overview, tools and resources, safety and compliance.
