To register through the UC Learning Center, select each course name below. All listings reflect Pacific Time. Unless otherwise noted, courses take place virtually via Zoom.

Technology

UCOP Creating Accessible Documents
April 3, 10 – 11:30 a.m.
Digital accessibility ensures that users with disabilities can easily access and engage with any digital content. In this course, you will learn the principles of digital accessibility, including how to generate accessible Microsoft Office documents and export them to PDF.

Excel Power Pivot
April 4 & 11, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Advance your Excel skills by learning Power Pivot! In this class, you’ll become familiar with the PowerPivot application. Learn to import data, manipulate data in a PowerPivot worksheet, create reports using PowerPivot data, use DAX functions in PowerPivot and distribute PowerPivot Data. Participants must attend both sessions to receive course credit.

Box Fundamentals
April 11, 10 – 11 a.m.
This course will give you an overview of Box, our cloud-based, secure file storage and file-sharing system. The session will cover how to use Box; collaborate with colleagues in and outside of UCOP; comment on files; set folder permissions and shared links; and many other features. IT administrators will be available to answer questions.

Smartsheet Tips for Project Management
April 16, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Discover new ways for you and your team to save time, increase collaboration and better manage projects. You will learn various tips, tricks and shortcuts to streamline and manage projects effectively and efficiently.

Excel Power BI
April 25, May 2 & May 9, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
In this three-session class, you’ll learn how to use Power BI to connect to data sources; clean, profile, shape and visualize data; create interactive visualizations; enhance reports and dashboards; and publish and share reports and dashboards. Participants must attend all three sessions to receive course credit.

Personal and professional growth

Subtle Acts of Exclusion
April 4, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
The term “microaggression” has become widely used, yet it is widely misunderstood. Join us as we reframe microaggressions as subtle acts of exclusion (SAE). In this session, we will reflect on how our socialization impacts our outlook, attitudes and behaviors; explain why it’s important to conceptualize “microaggressions” as “subtle acts of exclusion”; explore the SAE framework; and learn and discuss best practices for interrupting SAEs.

Accomplishing More with Less
April 17, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Learn to make breakthroughs, respond instead of reacting to your demanding work environment and establish sustainable practices to manage information overload and get outstanding results. This workshop deals with today’s most pressing issues in the workplace, covering topics relating to managing time, priorities, interruptions, emails, meetings and to-do lists, as well as organizing electronic and paper documents, and, most importantly, being invigorated and re-energized in the workplace and throughout your life.

Safety

UCOP Safety: Active Attacker Training
April 10, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
This live virtual class will teach participants skills and strategies to respond if exposed to an active-attacker situation. We will review real-life incidents and discuss options in the event of potential similar encounters.

UCOP Safety: Basic Awareness
April 18, 1 – 2 p.m.
Melissa Collins, Program Manager for Security, Risk and Resilience, will facilitate this live virtual class that will provide basic safety tips to help employees feel informed, alert and safe as they travel to and from the workplace. Extra time will be allotted for questions and feedback.

For managers and supervisors

GROW Plus: Accountability Conversations for Managers
April 3, April 11 or April 26, 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
In the second part of our live, virtual and highly interactive training series on manager and employee performance conversations, we will focus on what to do if your coaching is not improving performance. We’ll cover providing productive critical feedback, managing emotions, creating efficient documentation and holding effective accountability conversations. You will also practice having accountability conversations using the UCOP GROW Plus framework. Previous STEP trainings are all prerequisites to this course.

GROWing your Check-In Conversations for Managers
April 2 or May 2, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
GROW is a popular coaching framework used worldwide for problem-solving, goal-setting and performance improvement. At this interactive session, managers will discuss and practice using the GROW framework as a strategy and tool to support engaging STEP checkpoint conversations. The virtual course “GROWing your Checkpoint Conversations” is a prerequisite.

People Leader Forum: Team Professional Development Plans
April 19, 1 – 2 p.m.
The People Leader Forum is a monthly opportunity for people managers to develop leadership skills, build community, share best practices, swap strategies for navigating current challenges and learn to support themselves and their teams better. At this session, Talent Development Manager Annie Prozan will share tools for creating individual and team professional development plans.

For new employees

New Employee Orientation
Oakland, in-person: April 9, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. | Virtual: April 18, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Starting a new job or at a new UC location can be daunting. This session is designed to facilitate your smooth transition to the organization. We’ll cover UC and its history; an overview of UCOP as an organization; employee tools and resources; safety; and compliance. You are encouraged to attend a session as soon as possible; however, your orientation attendance date does not impact your benefits enrollment period (31 days from your benefits eligibility date).

  • Fun Flow Yoga
    Fridays through April 19, 8:30 – 9 a.m.
    Join us for a fun flow yoga session that combines movement and breath in perfect harmony. Transition from one pose to the next with a graceful and fluid sequence. Experience a heightened sense of presence in every moment.
  • Strategies for Becoming Your Best and Healthiest Self
    April 10, 1 – 1:45 p.m.
    To what extent can we work on improving ourselves? Are there better versions of ourselves that we haven’t yet discovered? Learn best practices to optimize all areas of your life to encourage growth, limit distractions and focus on the goals you want to achieve.
  • Stretch ‘n De-Stress
    Fridays, April 26 – May 31, 8:30 – 9 a.m.
    Stretch your body and de-stress your mind with this meditative practice. This is a class designed to help stretch the muscles, release stress, and focus on calming the mind, blending stretches and deep breathing for a rejuvenating exercise.
