UC Travel to host sustainability-focused “lunch flyover” events throughout April

April is Earth Month and the UC Central Travel Office is celebrating by hosting a “lunch flyover” series — short lunchtime events that are focused around how UC Travel and its partners are working to enhance sustainability throughout the travel industry.

UC Travel Earth Month: Kickoff Event
April 1, 12:10 – 12:30 p.m. PT
At this kick-off event, we will introduce the series and share expectations, our new sustainability site and details on travel emissions data.

UC Travel Earth Month: Alaska Airlines
April 2, 12:10 – 12:30 p.m. PT
Alaska Airlines representatives will share Alaska’s five-part plan to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.

UC Travel Earth Month: Amtrak
April 3, 12:10 – 12:30 p.m. PT
Passenger rail is widely recognized to be the most sustainable and efficient mode of transportation. At this event, Amtrak representatives will share their company’s vision to double ridership by 2040; achieve net-zero emissions by 2045; and implement plans to be more resilient and adaptive to climate impacts.

UC Travel Earth Month: Southwest Airlines
April 4, 12:10 – 12:30 p.m. PT
At this event, Southwest Airlines representatives will discuss challenges and opportunities around decarbonization in the aviation industry, as well as provide a deeper look into Southwest’s strategy and path to net-zero emissions.

UC Travel Earth Month: UC Energy and Sustainability
April 11, 12:10 – 12:30 p.m. PT
This event will feature UCOP Associate Director of Sustainability Ryan Bell. Learn how UC is a leader in climate and sustainability efforts amongst higher education systems. Ryan will walk through UC’s sustainability initiatives and achievements; details of our systemwide climate emissions; and current efforts toward greening transportation modes as a UC community.

UC Travel Earth Month: Hertz Car Rentals
April 16, 12:10 – 12:30 p.m. PT
At this event, Hertz Car Rentals representatives will discuss their company’s electric vehicle fleet and progress on meeting sustainability goals.

UC Travel Earth Month: BCD Travel
April 18, 12:10 – 12:30 p.m. PT
This event will feature representatives from BCD Travel, who will share how their company engages with its network of internal stakeholders, suppliers and clients to inspire them to live, work and travel in a more sustainably.

UC Travel Earth Month: Marriott Hotels
April 23, 12:10 – 12:30 p.m. PT
This event will feature a sustainability leader from Marriott Hotels, who will share what Marriott is doing to advance sustainability and what you can do to make an impact on your next trip.

UC Travel Earth Month: Enterprise/National Car Rentals
April 24, 12:10 – 12:30 p.m. PT
This event will feature representatives from Enterprise/National Car Rentals who will share information on Enterprise Mobility and how Enterprise is giving back to the communities it serves.

UC Travel Earth Month: UC Procurement Supplier Diversity
April 29, 12:10 – 12:30 p.m. PT
This event will feature Associate Director of Supplier Diversity & Sustainability Abim Odusoga, who will speak about UC’s systemwide economically and socially responsible procurement process.

UC Travel Earth Month: Wrap-up Event
April 30, 12:10 – 12:30 p.m. PT
At this event, we will review highlights from UCOP and supplier presentations that took place earlier in the month.
