On July 24, from 12 – 1 p.m. (PT), PACSW will feature Theresa A. Maldonado, Ph.D., systemwide vice president for Research & Innovation at UCOP. Please join us to learn how Dr. Maldonado’s serendipitous career path has prepared her for her current role at UC and how she has prioritized her work/life balance along the way.
The Women We Admire speaker series is open to all members of the UCOP community — people of all genders are invited to learn more about how to make the most of working at the university.

About Theresa Maldonado
As the UC system’s chief research officer, Theresa Maldonado, Ph.D., is revitalizing UC’s innovation transfer ecosystem, guiding multi-campus research institutes for greater impact, and interpreting new federal policy implications on research. In her daily work as vice president for Research & Innovation, she champions meaningful interdisciplinary research teams; authentically engages stakeholders — including state and federal government representatives, industry partners, and local communities, including Native American tribes; and proactively advocates the public value of UC research.
Dr. Maldonado is the president-elect of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and has served on numerous external advisory committees and boards, including at the National Science Foundation, National Academy of Engineering and California Council for Science and Technology.
Dr. Maldonado earned her bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in electrical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Her research background includes nonlinear optical materials and devices, electromagnetics and optical fiber technologies. She is a registered professional engineer in Texas.

We advance an agenda to improve the climate and opportunities for women at UCOP, identify and support model programs or activities, and recommend to the President changes that will afford women equal and fair access.
