Join NAIPISA and APISA for an Oakland lūʻau
On Tuesday, Aug. 20, all Oakland colleagues are invited to join the UCOP Native American, Indigenous and Pacific Islander Staff Association (NAIPISA) and Asian Pacific Islander Staff Association (APISA) employee resource groups for food tastings from Hawaiʻi! Stop by the Fifth Floor Patio from 12 – 1:30 p.m. to enjoy delicious food and desserts with your co-workers.
Did you know that the name for lūʻau celebrations originates from a traditional Hawaiian food served at an ʻahaʻaina (feast)? During the Aug. 20 event, you’ll have a chance to learn about Hawaiian culture and the history of lūʻaus, beginning with ahaʻaina celebrations in 1889 and transitioning into today’s lūʻaus with food, dance, music and other entertainment. And, you’ll discover even more about Hawaiian lūʻaus by answering the trivia questions during the event to be entered in a prize drawing!
