2025 Summer Sounds concert series brings the funk (+ soul, country, rock and jazz) to Oakland

Genre-blending powerhouse band Bayonics, of San Francisco, will perform at lunchtime on Aug. 27.

If you’re working in UCOP’s Oakland office, you’re in store for a treat: Oakland City Center is once again hosting its popular Summer Sounds concert series, which hosts bands from throughout the Bay Area to perform free concerts at lunchtime (12 – 1 p.m.) on Wednesdays at 13th St. and Broadway.

Mark your calendar for this year’s performances!

June 25: Lowstar Rodeo
A rootsy, Americana-influenced group from the Bay Area, combining country, rock and storytelling lyricism in their twangy, heartfelt performances.

July 2: Steady Eddy and the Shakers
Steady Eddy and the Shakers are a high-energy, eight-piece San Francisco cover band playing all your favorite Motown and funk hits, mashed with vocals and melodies from other classic and contemporary songs.

July 9: Lucas and Sugar Bear Band
Funk, soul and old-school R&B delivered with charisma. Known throughout the Bay Area for bringing classic dance floor vibes and infectious energy.

July 16: Double Funk Crunch
A funk-powered party band mixing 70s funk, modern dance hits and retro grooves for a high-energy, feel-good show.

July 23: Rumbaché
A sizzling salsa and Latin jazz band that combines classic Cuban rhythms with modern pop, funk and timba, lighting up dance floors across the West Coast.

July 30: The Party Starters
True to their name, this versatile band plays pop, funk and dance classics — perfect for upbeat, high-energy live sets that get crowds moving.

Aug. 6: Afroholix
Oakland-based collective blending funk, soul, hip-hop and Afrobeat. Their live shows are groove-driven and improvisational, with a strong community vibe.

Aug. 13: Hella Fitzgerald
A playful twist on Ella Fitzgerald’s name, this Bay Area ensemble delivers jazz, swing, soul and contemporary pop with vintage flair.

Aug. 20: Boca Do Rio
A Brazilian-American fusion group that blends samba, bossa nova and funk. Their sound is rich, rhythmic and deeply rooted in Afro-Latin traditions.

Aug. 27: Bayonics
A genre-blending powerhouse from San Francisco, merging Latin, hip-hop, reggae and funk into a bold, bilingual musical experience.
