UC Health delivers $5.9 billion in community benefits and uncompensated care
On Sept. 30, 2025, the University of California Health released its community engagement report for the 2023-2024 fiscal year. The report provides details on investments and descriptions of community engagement programs happening across the University’s academic health centers and faculty medical practices.
In the 2023-2024 fiscal year, UC academic health centers and faculty practice groups contributed $5.9 billion in community benefit and uncompensated care to support the health of the communities they serve. These investments include:
- $2 billion in hospital net community benefit from UC academic health centers, including $741 million in direct community benefit investment and $1.3 billion in uncompensated Medi-Cal care for hospitalized patients
- $2.7 billion in uncompensated Medicare expenses for hospitalized patients from UC academic health centers
- $1.2 billion in uncompensated Medi-Cal and Medicare expenses for patient care and financial aid from UC faculty practice groups
