UCOP celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. Day

UCOP leaders and staff participate in BSFO’s fourth annual “I Have a Dream” speech recitation and luncheon.
On Tuesday, Jan. 13, BSFO members organized a meaningful celebration to honor the legacy and birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in Oakland and online.
During the fourth annual BSFO MLK “I Have a Dream” Speech Recital and Luncheon, UCOP colleagues — including President Milliken and several senior leaders — came together in Oakland and via Zoom to take turns reading sections of Dr. King’s powerful speech aloud.
Following the speech, attendees had an opportunity to hear from guest speaker John Brown Childs, Ph.D., professor emeritus of sociology at UC Santa Cruz. Professor Brown is known as a pioneer in community-engaged scholarship for social justice whose work draws upon the teachings of Martin Luther King Jr.
“On behalf of BSFO, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to President James B. Milliken, UCOP senior leadership, UC staff and BSFO members for their participation,” shared BSFO Chair Joyce Price and Co-Chair Roni Wilson. “This event would not have been a success without your participation and continued support. Your presence helped make this celebration both meaningful and inspiring.”
We hope to see you again in 2027 for our next BSFO MLK event!
