Box quick tips

How to hide and display folders in Box Drive

If you’re having trouble finding your documents and folders in Box Drive, consider hiding those that you don’t need to see. (Note that hiding folders in Box Drive will not hide them in the Box web console.)

To hide files one at a time

  • Open Finder (Mac) or File Explorer (Windows)
  • Right-click on the folder you’d like to hide
  • Select “Hide this folder” or “Hide this file”

To hide multiple files or unhide files

  • Open the Preferences menu
  • Within the list of your Box folders and files, the visible folders will be checked and the hidden folders will be unchecked
  • Modify the folder status by checking or unchecking the folders you’d like to see or hide
  • Select “Done” to save changes

Be thoughtful when selecting file and folder names to avoid problems

Not all file names are equal. Consider the following:

  • Long names are unsupported: Box only supports file or folder names that are 255 characters or fewer, including the file path. If a name or path is too long, it may prevent you from saving or uploading files to a folder, truncate the content before uploading, or cause other unpredictable issues.
  • Special characters are unsupported. Box supports only Unicode Basic Multilingual Plane (BMP) characters in file and folder names. File names containing non-printable ascii, “/” or “\”, names with leading or trailing spaces, and the special characters “.” and “..” are also unsupported.
