The UCOP Digital Innovation and Technology (DIT) team is excited to introduce the AI Buddy Program, a new initiative launching in July 2026 that’s designed to help UCOP staff explore and build confidence with AI tools together.

As interest in AI continues to grow, many colleagues are eager to learn about it but may not know where to start, or prefer a more hands-on, collaborative approach. The AI Buddy Program provides a supportive, peer-based way to learn, experiment and share knowledge at your own pace.

Match with peers across experience levels

This program aims to connect colleagues with different levels of experience or in similar job roles to support meaningful learning. Participants who are newer to AI tools or looking for guidance will be paired with colleagues who have more experience and are comfortable helping others navigate use cases, answer questions and share practical tips. This model helps strengthen our broader AI community while ensuring those who need more support have a clear path forward.

Flexible participation and time commitment

Participation is flexible and driven by participants. Some peers may meet once or twice to exchange ideas, while others may choose to continue meeting over time. Because the AI Buddy Program may involve stepping away from regular responsibilities, we encourage you to discuss participation with your supervisor in advance. Planning ahead will help ensure you’re able to fully engage and benefit from the program.
