Find out about UCOP’s latest AI updates
The UCOP Digital Innovation and Technology (DIT) team is excited to announce new AI resources to support your work at UCOP.
ChatGPT Edu
ChatGPT Edu allows users to customize GPTs to support their team’s specific needs. Departments can build tailored assistants to automate repetitive tasks, streamline workflows and improve efficiency.
Connect your Outlook email and calendar
You can now connect Microsoft Outlook to UCOP ChatGPT Edu. Once connected, ChatGPT can use your Outlook email and calendar as knowledge sources to search and summarize your mail, look up events and availability, and create or update meetings right from a chat. Two apps are available:
- Outlook Email: Search, summarize, and reference your messages, and draft replies.
- Outlook Calendar: Look up availability and events, create and update meetings, and respond to invites.
For more details, download the ChatGPT Outlook Email and Calendar Connectors Informational PDF and visit the OpenAI Help Center.
Get permissions for using Chat GPT Edu with P4 Data
ChatGPT Edu is approved for use with P1, P2, and P3 data, providing a secure and flexible environment for everyday work. (Review UC data classifications.) To use ChatGPT Edu with P4 data, you must follow these steps:
- Discuss the data use with your manager and have their approval
- Submit a formal request to your manager and privacy@ucop.edu
- Your manager must use “reply all” when expressing their approval (This aids with tracking data use.)

Direct access to the OpenAI API and Zero Data Retention (ZDR) API
UCOP is expanding access to secure, enterprise-ready AI capabilities by allowing employees and developers to request direct access to the OpenAI API — including the Zero Data Retention (ZDR) API — enabling teams to build AI-powered tools that support innovation across the organization.
This new capability provides programmatic access to OpenAI’s models, making it easier to integrate AI into workflows, applications and services. Teams can use these tools to support content generation, summarization, code assistance, classification and conversational experiences — helping streamline work and enhance productivity.
For more details on what’s available, how to request access and costs, visit the UCOP AI Hub OpenAI API SharePoint page.
Supporting responsible and secure AI use
UCOP DIT encourages teams to explore how AI capabilities can enhance everyday work and enable new ideas. As with all technology services, usage should align with UCOP guidelines for responsible, secure and appropriate handling of data.
