Name: Dan Gibbons
Title: Senior Director, UC Self-Funded Health Plans
Department/Unit: Benefits Program & Strategy, Systemwide Human Resources
Location: Remote in Sacramento, CA
When you started working at UCOP: October 2023
What you do at UCOP in 5 words or less: Leader within Employee Health Plans
The best part about working for OP: Working with talented colleagues across the UC system and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the health care experience of UC employees, retirees and their families.
Something your colleagues don’t know about you: I am a trained classical music singer (Baritone) and have performed with various orchestras all over the world, including at the Hollywood Bowl and the Vatican.
One weird fact about the town you grew up in: I grew up in Vermilion, Ohio (~40mi west of Cleveland along Lake Erie). Vermilion hosts the Woollybear Festival — one of Ohio’s largest fall festivals based on a woollybear caterpillar — complete with caterpillar races and an official winter forecast based on the caterpillar’s movements.
If you could have any job in the world (besides the one you have now), it would be: A voice-over actor for cartoons, documentaries, commercials, etc.
