President Milliken invites UCOP staff to join him for the next event in the President’s Leadership Conversations series, featuring UC San Francisco Chancellor Sam Hawgood, on September 22, from 2:15 – 3:30 p.m. (PT).

Meet Sam Hawgood: From Neonatologist to Chancellor

What does it take to lead one of the world’s great health sciences universities? And what can medicine teach us about leadership and innovation?

Join us for a conversation with Sam Hawgood, chancellor of UCSF. A native of Australia, Chancellor Hawgood joined UCSF as a research fellow in 1982 and has spent more than four decades there as a researcher, professor, pediatrician, and academic leader. His career has spanned UCSF’s research, clinical, and education missions, and he was appointed chancellor in 2014. Today, he leads an $11.4 billion enterprise at the only UC campus focused exclusively on health, bringing together scientific discovery, health sciences education, and patient care.

Come hear Chancellor Hawgood share the experiences, discoveries, and ideas that have shaped his remarkable journey, as well as his vision for the future of health and science.

How to attend

This conversation will take place in front of a live UCOP audience in the Broadway Conference Center. We hope you’ll be able to join us in person! Light refreshments will be served.

The conversation will also be livestreamed via Zoom for those who cannot attend in person.

Advance registration is required. On Wednesday, September 2, all UCOP staff will receive an Outlook invitation with a link to a Zoom registration page where you’ll be able to specify how you plan to attend (in-person or virtually) and share questions for Chancellor Hawgood. In-person attendees will have an opportunity to submit additional questions before the event. For logistical reasons, we cannot accept live questions.
