The UCOP IT Accessibility Work Group promotes accessibility, implements web accessibility standards and offers education and training to UCOP staff. UCOP employees may be nominated as Accessibility Champions by the work group or a colleague for their commitment to making UCOP websites and digital content accessible to people with disabilities.

Congratulations to the following employees!

Since learning about digital accessibility requirements, Training Development Manager Frank Perez leads his team in creating accessible PDFs while building his own understanding of PDF accessibility, including complex topics such as metadata and reading order. He’s committed to creating materials for everyone in the UC community.

As an HR compensation programs and strategies analyst, Kisha Cunningham prepares executive compensation reports that comply with strict UCOP digital accessibility requirements and publishes them on a UCOP webpage outside her department, while navigating workflows and timelines. When faced with new content, such as long PDF tables, she seeks out best practices and guidance to ensure her reports are accessible from the start.

Belinda Vea, Jennifer Damico, Rachal Valtakis and Sarah Houghton have established and are leading UCOP’s EquitAbility employee resource group, which works to promote and enhance the well-being of people with disabilities, including staff, faculty and students, through active participation and representation in the affairs at UC and the community at large. Cynthia “Cindy” Chavez, an analyst in Compliance, Reporting and Analytics for Systemwide HR, encourages her team to prioritize accessibility by attending training, sharing examples and explaining requirements. She also created a tracker to help colleagues assess and address accessibility needs, easing the load on UCOP’s digital accessibility work group.
